MONEYVAL Online Working Meetings

MONEYVAL Online Working Meetings

  • 08 July, 2020

From 30 June to 3 July 2020, the Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism – MONEYVAL, held working meetings on strategic, procedural issues, as well as matters related to typologies and risk monitoring.
Representatives of all MONEYVAL delegations, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), FATF-style regional bodies (FSRBs), including the EAG, and observers participated in the discussions.

The meeting agenda covered topics such as the impact of COVID-19 on the MONEYVAL planning and operations, the 2020-2022 MONEYVAL Workplan, preliminary findings on the COVID-19 related ML/TF risks and trends, MONEYVAL’s regional counter terrorism financing operational plan, potential typologies research topics for 2020-2021, and updates on recent FATF and EU developments.

Of particular interest is the initiative for a horizontal review of mutual evaluation reports, as it addresses issues of quality and consistency, which in turn is both relevant and useful for the entire FATF global network. The EAG supported this initiative and briefed participants on the similar work carried out by it on an ongoing basis to present best practices.

The EAG also expressed its readiness to continue its participation in MONEYVAL mutual evaluations and potential joint typologies research.

The next MONEYVAL Plenary meeting is scheduled to be held in Strasbourg in September 2020.
