Joint EAG/MENAFATF Seminar on Typologies and Capacity Building

    In the period between 14th and 17th of December 2014, a joint EAG/MENAFATF Seminar on Typologies and Capacity Building was held in Doha, State of Qatar.

    More than 200 representatives of the public sector from 28 member-states and observers of EAG, MENAFATF and International organizations, as well as around 50 representatives of the private sector took part in the event. In accordance with the agenda on 14th and 15th of December 2014, three concurrent sessions were included on the following topics: “Money Laundering through the Physical Transportation of Cash”, “Illicit Financial Flows and the Use of AML/CFT Tools to Combat Corruption” and “Risks and Threats of money laundering from cybercrime”. On 16th and 17th of December 2014, two sessions on Capacity Building were also included on the agenda on the following topics: “The New FATF Recommendations and the Role of the Private Sector in the National Risk Assessment” and “AML/CFT and New Technologies”. It should be noted, that the active participation of the representatives of the EAG member-states in the course of the presentations and discussions formed an important basis and contributed to the experts and participants’ understanding of methods and trends in combating money laundering and financing of terrorism. The seminar provided for an excellent opportunity for the participants to share the experience between the states of two regions and gain access to the typologies researches and methods of combating ML/FT of other countries.
