The Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG) presents the key results of its activities for the period from September 2024 to August 2025.
In the reporting period, the Group focused on implementing its strategic goals and chairmanship priorities, achieving significant progress in three key areas: the development of national AML/CFT systems, the mitigation of regional risks, and the development of multilateral cooperation. Active participation in the work of the FATF Global Network remained an important component.
The start of the 3rd round of the EAG mutual evaluations – the first strategic direction of the EAG's work for 2024-2028 – became the main driver for the development of national systems in the region.
To provide Member States with their own qualified personnel, the EAG Secretariat organized a large-scale training program. 260 national experts were trained.
In response to the updated FATF requirements, the Eurasian Group developed a number of practical methodological recommendations, in particular on risk-based oversight of NPOs (Recommendation 8) and conducting joint international financial investigations. These issues were key at the 4th Forum of Parliamentarians and the Forum for prosecutors.
In the spirit of solidarity, the EAG launched a pilot project to provide mutual technical assistance to the Kyrgyz Republic in preparing for its evaluation. The successful experience will be extended to other countries, starting with the Republic of Tajikistan. The development of a Technical Assistance Plan for the Islamic Republic of Iran demonstrates the observers' trust in the organization and the interest for its expert capabilities.
The results of the regional risk mitigation plan implementation, summarized at the 42nd Plenary Meeting, confirm the effectiveness of the selected approach.
The Eurasian Group's methodology has been adopted as a basis by the MENAFATF for developing its own risk assessment.
To address complex AML/CFT tasks, the EAG has created and is developing an inclusive, multi-level cooperation "ecosystem," involving key representatives of government, business, and civil society.
The EAG's partner network continues to expand: during the reporting period, the UAE and the Afreximbank were granted observer status. The Eurasian Group actively cooperates with the FATF, FSRBs, the UN, and other international organizations, carrying out joint projects for the benefit of the Member States.
