AG Working Group meetings were held in Guilin, China

    On December 7 the EAG Working Groups on Mutual Evaluation and Legal Issues (WGEL), Typologies (WGTYP), Technical Assistance (WGTA) and Ad hoc Working group on operational guidance on the implementation of FATF Recommendations in EAG member states, met in Guilin (China) in order to discuss the following issues.

    1. Results of money laundering/terrorist financing typologies research held on the following subjects:

    • Legalization (laundering) of the proceeds from the embezzlement of budget funds; 
    • Money laundering via foreign trade; 
    • Legalization (laundering) of the proceeds from illegal trafficking in drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors.

    2. Concept of technical assistance provision to the EAG member states for developing their national AML/CFT systems based on common rules and coordination of the donors’ activities.

    3. Approval of the Memorandum of understanding between the EAG and CSTO which is aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two organizations in combating illegal drug trafficking and laundering proceeds from drugs as well as strengthening ‘financial security belts’ around Afghanistan. 

    4. Operational guidance for the EAG member-states compliance with the international standards, including the FATF 40+9 Recommendations, for information exchange, data collection, information security and analysis. 

    The Working Group meetings started the EAG Plenary session. The actual 11th EAG Plenary meeting will be held on December 8-9 and chaired by the EAG Chairman, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation Mr. Oleg Markov.
