The Financial Monitoring Committee hosted, 28 February 2020, the training workshop on the Latest Developments in the Domestic and International Regulation of Digital Assets to Improve the Effectiveness of National AML/CFT Systems and round table entitled "Discussion of Topical Issues of Digital Asset Regulation." The workshop, held via video link, was attended by EAG member countries.
The workshop was organized by the International Training and Methodology Centre for Financial Monitoring.
The purpose of the workshop was to inform the participants about the latest developments and trends in the domestic and international regulation of digital assets to improve the effectiveness of national AML/CFT systems, as well as to facilitate the sharing of EAG countries' experience in the regulation and supervision of digital assets (including cryptocurrencies).
Among the topics discussed were as follows:
- Global (including the FATF), regional and national (EU, USA, UK) financial regulators' approaches to the regulation of digital assets, including the issue of a regulated perimeter.
- Key provisions of the global financial regulators' latest regulations on the legalization of digital assets to combat ML/TF.
- The phenomenon of global stablecoins from the perspective of the ML/TF risks and global regulators (Financial Stability Board, G7, FATF).
- Topical issues related to the domestic regulation and legalization of digital assets, including the issuance of central bank digital currencies.
- Key trends and prospects for the development of digital assets in Eurasia.
- The legal status of digital assets in today's Russia (latest developments and trends) and possible ways of their future regulation.
Participants also took part in a round table where they shared experiences and discussed topical issues facing EAG countries in this area.
