From 16 to 18 September 2020, the Council of Europe Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism (MONEYVAL) held its 60th Plenary meeting, which was conducted for the first time in a hybrid format. Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić delivered a welcome speech, emphasizing that in the context of the pandemic it is important to actively combat financial crime and to act together under the leadership of the FATF.
The plenary meeting was chaired by the Committee's Vice-President - representative of Russia Mr. Alexey Petrenko.
The main items on the agenda were discussions of the key findings of the mutual evaluations of Georgia and Slovakia. As a result, the plenary session approved the relevant reports.
Among other issues, it is worth mentioning the approval of topics for future typological studies proposed by Poland and Russia, as well as the information provided by the MONEYVAL Secretariat as part of the horizontal analysis of evaluations of the implementation of FATF Standards. The EAG Secretariat supported this work of the Committee and informed about its upcoming initiatives.
The next MONEYVAL Plenary meeting will be held in April 2021.
