Outcomes of the two-day national workshop on "Implementation of UNSC Targeted Financial Sanctions against the Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction into National Legislation"

    The two-day national workshop on "Implementation of UNSC Targeted Financial Sanctions against the Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction into National Legislation" was held in Astana on 29-30 June 2017

    The workshop was organized by the Kazakh Finance Ministry's Committee on Financial Monitoring jointly with the OSCE Programme Office in Astana and the US Embassy in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

    The workshop was attended by representatives of the Committee on Financial Monitoring, the State Revenue Committee, the National Security Committee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Investment and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan

    The purpose of the workshop was raise awareness of the fight against the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the efforts undertaken at the national level. Participants familiarized themselves with the requirements of the UN Security Council resolutions on countering the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The invited international experts shared the best international practices in implementing the relevant UN Security Council sanctions resolutions.

    The workshop was led by experts from the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG), the Financial Action Task Force Training and Research Institute and the EU Outreach Programme in Export Control of Dual-Use Items.

    Throughout the workshop, all participants engaged in a lively discussion, shared their experiences and exchanged views on ways to further develop and improve the national system for countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
