Large-Scale Scheme for the Illegal Sale of State-Owned Fur Reserves Suppressed by the Financial Investigation Department of the State Control Committee of the Republic of Belarus.

The audit of the Financial Investigation Department of the State Control Committee of the Republic of Belarus showed: for several years, skins of the highest category were formed as a scrap. Low density, wool defects and other flaws in the documents seriously reduced the cost. For premium raw materials in fact and scrap according to the documents, the customer had a good discount, and the management received a reward for false documents. The scale of bribes is striking – more than 130 thousand US dollars were transferred to officials of the Belarusian state-owned enterprise.

According to the results of the audit, 13 criminal cases were instituted. The suspects are not only officials of the enterprise, but also representatives of foreign commercial structures that handed over bribes.

For receiving bribes and causing damage to the enterprise, two heads of production branches were sentenced to 10 years and 3 years. The chief economist was sentenced to 9 years in prison. Also, all three must pay large fines – from 45 to 135 thousand belarusian rubles.
