EAG Took Part in the 50th ESAAMLG Task Force Meeting in Ethiopia

EAG continues to strengthen cooperation with ESAAMLG. Within the framework of this cooperation, the EAG Secretariat took part in the 50th ESAAMLG Task Force of Senior Officials Meeting, the 25th Council of Ministers Meeting and the 8th Public-Private Sector Dialogue (PPSD), held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 25 to 30 August 2025.

During the meetings, important decisions were taken: the Democratic Republic of the Congo was admitted as a full member of ESAAMLG, Norway and Afreximbank were admitted as observers, the regional FIU Information Exchange Platform (ESAAMLG FIU Information Exchange Platform – E-IEPS) was launched, Tanzania’s exit from the FATF ICRG process was noted, and the admission of Mozambique’s FIU to the Egmont Group as the 15th FIU in the ESAAMLG region was welcomed. The ESAAMLG Presidency was handed over to Rwanda.

The EAG Secretariat actively participated in the discussions, sharing the experience of EAG member states in conducting typological research, organising technical assistance and preparing for mutual evaluations.

Participation in ESAAMLG events contributes to strengthening cooperation between FATF-style regional bodies, exchanging best practices and developing coordinated approaches to combating money laundering and terrorist financing in the Eurasian and African regions. In furtherance of this cooperation, ESAAMLG submitted an official request to the EAG for observer status.

The next ESAAMLG Plenary Meeting will be held from 23 to 27 March 2026 in Arusha, Tanzania.
