The regional office of the Financial Investigations Department of the State Control Committee of the Republic of Belarus has uncovered and suppressed a corruption scheme in the agro-industrial sector involving the receipt of illegal remuneration for a favorable decision regarding the selection of a supplier of veterinary medicines for a poultry farm.

It was established that the chief veterinarian of the poultry farm received 8 thousand USD from the deputy director of a state veterinary institution, who acted in the interests of a commercial company supplying veterinary drugs. For the purposes of concealment, the funds were transferred in US dollars through a chain of intermediaries from a close circle of associates. One of the intermediaries subsequently exchanged the money into foreign currency and passed it on to the bribe recipient.

The chief veterinarian of the poultry farm was detained red-handed while receiving the bribe. Equivalent of 8 thousand USD, was discovered in his vehicle.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the official of the poultry farm. A preliminary investigation is ongoing to establish all participants in the corruption scheme. During procedural actions, funds in foreign currencies and gold bars were seized, and the suspect’s property was placed under arrest.
