The representatives of the Financial Monitoring Department, Ministry of Internal Affairs, National Bank and Ministry of Finance received the certificates of successful completion of training arranged for assessors of the countries-members of the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (EAG). The assessor certificates were awarded to four specialists. The certificate delivery ceremony took place at the State Control Committee headquarters.
These certificates will allow the Belarusian assessors to participate in evaluations of the AML/CFT systems of the EAG member-countries for compliance with the FATF Standards. All assessors have extensive experience of working in FIU analytical departments, law enforcement agencies involved in criminal investigations of money laundering and terrorist financing and supervisory authorities conducting on-site and off-site inspections.
To date, the EAG has trained seven assessors from the Republic of Belarus, two of whom are the officers of the Financial Monitoring Department of the State Control Committee. In 2016-2018, one Belarusian assessors took part in evaluation of the anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing and counter-proliferation financing (AML/CFT) system of Kyrgyzstan, and another two assessors from Belarus are currently involved in evaluation of the AML/CFT system of Tajikistan.
Mutual evaluations of the AML/CFT systems are regularly conducted in each of the EAG member-countries. The second round of the EAG mutual evaluations began in November 2016 with the peer review of the national AML/CFT system of Kyrgyzstan. In early 2019, the assessors will conduct the on-site visit to the Republic of Belarus as part of mutual evaluation of its national AML/CFT system.
